The above group got together at Rebecca Weis' house in Port on the evening of July 3rd and bandied about a number of issues related to setting up the Richard L. Boyle Memorial Scholarship Award. The general sense of the meeting was that, in addition to being a great teacher, Mr. Boyle was a true Renaissance man due to his many talents and involvements outside the classroom. So we would like the scholarship to be awarded each year to a graduating Schreiber High School senior who best embodies Mr. Boyle's spirit. This would be a student who consistently displayed a passion for mathematics, as well as for spreading a love of education to others, throughout his or her high school career. Preference would be given to those who have also engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities, or have been involved in worthy causes, and who intend to enter college in hopes of making lifelong contributions to their community.

Our thanks to Penny D'Antonio, who reports that all members of the PW Retired Teachers Association have already received an e-mail about the website, and that a link to it will be going up on their website soon. Similar plans are in the works regarding the Port Washington Teachers Association website.

A full Mission Statement was drafted and will be released shortly. In the meantime, please keep spreading the word to your friends and former classmates about our efforts, and if anyone is - or knows - a lawyer who has experience with scholarship funds for public schools, the committee has some procedural questions we'd like answered.
